Medvedev, Berlusconi discuss RF-Italia cooperation, world issues

BARVIKHA, May 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Italian
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi met on Saturday to discuss cooperation between
the two countries and international issues. In the focus will be cooperation in
the trade and economic area, a Kremlin source told Itar-Tass.
The two countries are ready to speed up the transition to the new quality of
bilateral trade and economic relations that must be orientated to
implementation of scientific high-technological projects with great
effectiveness, the source noted.
The two leaders in a constructive and confidence atmosphere will discuss key
issues of the world agenda, including ways to overcome the world financial
crisis in the context of the London G20 summit results, new European security
architecture, Russia-EU and Russia-NATO relations, energy security, Italy's G8
presidency in 2009 and regional issues, the source said.
Medvedev and Berlusconi will also discuss culture and humanitarian cooperation
between the two countries. Work begins to organise Year of the Russian Language
and Russian Culture in Italy in 2011 and Year of Italian Culture and the
Italian Language in Russia, the main events of cooperation in the culture
sphere for the near future. The initiative was presented on November 6, 2008,
during the top-level interstate consultations.
