Media Sector Project Concludes Radio Training in Gaza and The West Bank

RAMALLAH, May 14, 2009 (WAFA)- The BBC World Service Trust announced, today,
that it has successfully concluded a specialised radio training in five radio
stations in Gaza, as part of the ‘Support to the Palestinian Media Sector’
project, which is funded by the European Union and the Dutch Government.
The foundation mentioned in a press release issued, today, that journalists
working for local radio stations at Gaza were trained in news management,
writing and interviewing skills, news selection, production of news bulletins
with audio inserts and program design.
Also, in the West Bank, the BBC World Service Trust concluded a course of radio
training targeting managers, producers, presenters and reporters working for
Maan Radio Network, radio Zein in Jenin, Tareeq Al-Mahabeh FM in Nablus, Radio
Bethlehem 2000, Raya FM and A-Sharq Radio in Ramallah.
“Led by BBC trainer Tony Howson, the three-week course focused on Understanding
Audiences, Breakfast Shows, Package Making, Drivetime Programs and News
Management”, said the BBC World Service Trust.
The face-to-face training was complemented with on-line components using the
BBC World Service Trust’s I Learn training system: Introduction to Journalism,
Accuracy, Impartiality and Fairness and Straight Dealing.
The press release mentioned that the Foundation’s support to the Palestinian
Media Sector is a two-year project with a total budget of 850,000 Euros funded
by the European Union (80%) and the Dutch Government (20%).
According to The BBC World Service Trust, the project aims at supporting the
Palestinian media sector and strengthening its role in serving the public
through greater commitment to standards of ethical journalism, as well as
increase the level of networking and dialogue between media professionals in
the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
