Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of Indonesian workers in February 2009
reached 113.74 million, Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Rusman
Heriawan said here on Monday.

"There was an increase of 1.79 million if compared with the number of workers
recorded in August 2008 which stood at 11.95 million, or an increase of 2.26
million if compared with February 2008 when the figure was 111.48 million," the
BPS chief said.

He said the number of workers who had jobs in February 2009 was 104.49 million,
or an increase of 1.94 million compared with that in August 2008 which stood at
102.55 million.

The number of those employed in February 2009 also increased by 2.44 million if

February, except the construction sector which experience job contraction by
120,000 workers.

The transportation, warehousing and communications sector also offered
job-opportunity contractions by 60,000 jobs, he said.
