05/25/09 21:27 Number of Indonesian workers reaches 113.74 million Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of Indonesian workers in February 2009 reached 113.74 million, Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Rusman Heriawan said here on Monday. "There was an increase of 1.79 million if compared with the number of workers recorded in August 2008 which stood at 11.95 million, or an increase of 2.26 million if compared with February 2008 when the figure was 111.48 million," the BPS chief said. He said the number of workers who had jobs in February 2009 was 104.49 million, or an increase of 1.94 million compared with that in August 2008 which stood at 102.55 million. The number of those employed in February 2009 also increased by 2.44 million if compared with that February 2008 which was 102.05 workers. Heriawan said that almost all sectors experienced job enhancement in 2008 February, except the construction sector which experience job contraction by 120,000 workers. The transportation, warehousing and communications sector also offered job-opportunity contractions by 60,000 jobs, he said.
