Al-Qaeda's next front - China

Al-Qaeda posed a threat to China for the first time, promising to organize acts
of terrorism against Chinese workers in Northern Africa in revenge for the
death of Moslems-Uygurs, The Times wrote.

Al-Qaeda threats followed the disorders in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
of China during the last week. 184 persons were killed and 1,680 wounded in the
riots. They were mostly the Chinese who fell victims of the Uigurs, but
international terrorist network Al-Qaeda promised to revenge the PRC for the
death of the Uigurs during recent interethnic collisions in the Xinjiang Uygur
Autonomous Region.

After the police and the military suppressed the riots in Xinjiang, the Chinese
law enforcement authorities reinforced their activities in this autonomous
region where a number of acts of terrorism had been recently performed.

However, the Islamic terrorists have no significant base to carry out the
"actions of revenge" at the PRC territory, except for the Xinjiang Uygur
Autonomous Region, but it can not be said about other countries, where the
Chinese Diaspora prospers.

The Chinese specialists working in Northern Africa and other Moslem countries
will face a serious danger. Al-Qaeda promised to revenge for the
coreligionists' deaths by acts of terrorism against the Chinese workers in
Algeria and across the whole Northwest of Africa. For example, the number of
Chinese workers in Algeria amounts to 50,000 individuals.

Three weeks before the riots in Urumqi, AQIM attacked the Algerian escort
accompanying the Chinese engineers, participating in the road project. 24
security guards were killed. The Chinese did not suffer, but both Chinese
engineers and security forces may become the aim of future attacks.

The events in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region resulted in massive protests
both in Europe, where a large Uygur Diaspora lives, and in the countries of the
Middle East. The biggest demonstrations took place in Turkey. Turkey's Prime
Minister Recep Erdogan called the events in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous
Region "the genocide of the Uygurs."

According to experts' opinion, the Islamic world will only make appeals and
threats. When commenting on Erdogan's statement, one political analyst stressed
out that China was a quarter of mankind and that neither the USA nor the Muslim
world could influence it."

However, the Chinese secret services will not underestimate the threats from
such terrorist organizations, as Al-Qaeda.
