There's a decent chance this change doesn't address _all_ revapi issues with the current build; @aratno has been doing some work in that area and has identified what look like some other issues that still need to be sorted. But this change is (a) pretty clearly more correct on it's face and (b) does address at least the build problems I was seeing (referenced in the description).
