When it comes to personal development, fueling your progressive
enhancement is essential. That's one of the things that separates the
mediocre from the good, the good from the great and the great from the
outstanding.

They not only set a goal and achieve it, they also constantly improve
themselves by capitalizing on more and more opportunities.

Many times people focus on being more efficient rather than being more
effective. This is a big mistake. While having both traits is great, if
I had to choose between the two, I would much rather be effective at
something rather than efficient.

Here's why. When you break down the meaning of each word, being
efficient means that when given a certain task or set of instructions
you are extremely capable of executing the task at hand. Being efficient
at something is only beneficial if the set of directions or the task at
hand are correct. In others words, the beneficial result that is
achieved is always dependent on the instructions.

Being effective at something is quite different. True Effectiveness
yields results regardless of the instructions given. Why? Because the
instructions are always correct because the effective person's
personality is smart enough to create the right set of instruction
himself or he at least knows where to obtain them. For that is what
makes him effective and not just simply efficient.

The good news about being effective is that it's not a natural talent
that you're either born with or not. Rather, it is learned through
repetition and practice. So anyone can learn to be effective by simply
practicing it over and over again.

So now the question becomes how do you become effective at something?
Well, it really all depends on what it is that you are focused on. But
being an effective person in general encompasses a host of different
principles that when combined synergistically ultimately create an
effective being.

One of the primary aspects of being effective is the ability to be
persuasive. I remember once reading about a survey done on about 1,000
millionaires (most self-made) to see what success-driving
characteristics they had in common. When asked what was the single most
important reason they were successful? The majority of millionaires said
it was their "ability to deal with people". And being persuasive is
simply "dealing with and convincing people to do what you want them to
do effectively".

Think about it. The most successful people in the world at some point in
their lives had to persuade someone else to either believe in their
product, capability, knowledge, decision making process, etc.

Donald Trump would own no real estate if he didn't persuade a bank to
lend him money. Oprah Winfrey would have no TV show if she wasn't able
to persuade the producers to give her one. Robert Kyosaki would have
never sold one copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad if he had not persuaded someone
to publish and further more to persuade the people reading it that he
knew what he was talking about.
