Most likely psychological - if you stop looking at a monitor the other lights tend to look brighter. You could try turning down the brightness control - at the risk of having your digital photo prints coming out wrong if you use the same monitor for adjusting lightness / contrast / colour balance etc. If your lights really did brighten when you stopped Prime95, there is something seriously wrong with your house wiring or utility supply.
