Much better idea. However, not all distributions put ~/bin into the PATH
variable by default. I believe that Debian does not, for example.
/usr/local/bin is another reasonable place.

Also a good idea. Another possible gotcha, depending on the version of
Windows, is that some of them are not truly case preserving.

It's a good idea to have a small partition formatted as VFAT
for ease of transfer, anyway.
