THE WEEKEND PRIMETIME NEWSLETTER
Friday April 19th- Sunday April 21st, 2002
***HIGHLIGHTS***
Well, it feels a little like deja vu all over again. A celebrity, who spent
decades in the spotlight, has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife.
And once again, TV viewers watched with a helicopter's-eye view as a car made its way
down a California highway. This time though, it was Robert Blake in the back, and
police had already taken him into custody. You can read all the details of the case
built against the star of the 70s hit show "Baretta" on our website at
http://www.msnbc.com/news/740840.asp. And then tonight at 9pm ET, tune in to
AMERICA'S NEWSCHANNEL where we'll roll out an all new version of MSNBC INVESTIGATES: A
HOLLYWOOD MURDER MYSTERY. We'll take you through the whole case of the murder of
Bonny Lee Bakley. And then at 10pm ET we present HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: ROBERT BLAKE.
As for Saturday night... what can we say about a line-up that goes from
chimps, to women body-builders, to extreme plastic surgery to a man named Christopher
who becomes Christine? If that ain't evolution, what is? Pop yourself a bag of
popcorn* and curl up for a night of just plain good TV.
*94% Fat Free Butter Flavored Popcorn-one bag of the microwave variety is about 3
points on Weight Watchers (pop whichever kind you like, we're just trying to help...)
Sunday night has a little something for everyone. We start with a new program
on the making of the new "large format" (think IMAX) film on Lewis & Clark's journey,
called NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: LEWIS & CLARK: THE BIG CHALLENGE. 200 years
later, NatGeo crews trace the route, facing their own treacherous obstacles. If you
are into science and technology and history, this is for you. The fun begins at 8pm
ET on Sunday.
Then, make sure you've taken your blood pressure medicine. At 10pm ET we
premiere MSNBC INVESTIGATES: LAS VEGAS NEVADA TRAUMA. We go inside what has to be one
of the craziest places on earth, the trauma center in the middle of one of America's
fastest-growing cities. From head injuries, to car accidents to a guy who is gored by
a bull... this program is not for wimps. It's fast-paced, and fascinating.
There's lots of other goodies... keep reading.

MSNBC INVESTIGATES: A HOLLYWOOD MURDER MYSTERY
From the moment police were called to the scene through the 11-month
investigation that has apparently led them to Robert Blake, we go inside the Bonny Lee
Bakley murder mystery. We'll look at the troubled past of both Blake and his wife and
talk with the people who know him best and have followed this case the closest. For

HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: ROBERT BLAKE
Did you know Robert Blake started his career as a child actor in the "Our
Gang" comedies. He has since reappeared as a powerful character actor in countless TV
shows and films. He's best known for his role as an undercover cop in TV's "Baretta."
Despite the Hollywood success, his life has been plagued by personal difficulties. He
claims he was abused as a child by his own family. Then he suffered bouts of drug
abuse and developed a reputation as a "difficult" actor and a "perfectionist". After a
successful TV run of the "Hell Town" series, he dropped out of show business for
almost a decade until he had the courage to return to acting. In this biography, we
look at Robert Blake's many ups and downs and get some perspective from Stephen
Cannell, the creator of "Baretta."

MSNBC INVESTIGATES: CAPTURED: TATTOOED WOMEN
Is it just us, or does it seem like everyone's got a tattoo these days?
Actually, it is true that more women than ever are getting tattoos, and they do it for
reasons sooo different than men. In this program the women behind the pictured bodies
tell their stories. Some consider themselves artists' canvasses. One woman in this
program has tattooed herself in an extraordinary way to hide scars from a painful
surgery.
10PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: CAPTURED: BODY OF WORK
So, you're flipping channels one weekend afternoon and you come across a
female body-building contest. Is your first response "ooh-la-la" or just plain
"eeeeeeewwww?" Either way, you have to check this out... as we follow along with
three women vying for a national body-building championship. They'll explain why they
do it, and how they do it. The final push to get their bodies into peak shape can be
excruciating and some doctors say very dangerous. From extreme workouts to practical
starvation-- what drives these women to work so hard?
11PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: EXTREME PLASTIC SURGERY
If just reading that last paragraph was more exercise than you care for...
perhaps a little nip and tuck is more your speed? In this program we've got the guy
who dreams of looking just like Drew Carey and the woman who hopes to be mistaken for
Barbie. We go inside the world of extreme plastic surgery, where people (lots of
them) go under the knife for four or five procedures at a time... some of them do it
over and over and over again-- with dramatic results.
12AM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: A CHANGE OF GENDER
Chris McGinn was born a man, but this handsome 31-year-old military doctor
decides to undergo surgery to become "Christine." Can you imagine what it must have
been like to tell his wife of his plans? His friends? This program is an amazing
look into the very private life of someone who takes drastic measures to become the
person she feels she's always been.
SUNDAY APRIL 14
8-10PM ET
***NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: LEWIS AND CLARK: THE BIG CHALLENGE***
Go behind the scenes as National Geographic makes the highly-anticipated
large-format film "Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West." Take a peek into the daily
life of cast members thrust into a time long past; they cope with sub-zero
temperatures, wet clothes, and tricky river rafting just like the adventurers of 200
years ago. Reenacting some of the most dangerous moments of the trek, the actors find
themselves hanging off cliffs and being chased by bears.
10PM ET
***MSNBC INVESTIGATES: LIFE & DEATH: LAS VEGAS NEVADA TRAUMA***
30 million people visit Las Vegas every year. That's almost four times the
population of New York City. (For those of you who've had to battle packed subway
cars in 100 degree temps this week-- you know just how many people I'm talking about.)
And 13-thousand people are brought through the doors of the trauma center at Vegas's
University Medical Center. In this premiere, we tag along with the doctors and nurses
who get to boast about their winning odds-- more than 95 percent of their patients
survive.
