You could try switching on 'debug' in the foomatic-rip filter script to 
see if that shows why its going wrong.

Just change ...
    my $debug =
to 1, then rerun your print job, the log should be in /tmp/foomatic-rip

I'm not sure where 'foomatic-rip' lives on opensolaris, but on s10 its 
/usr/lib/lp/bin/foomatic-rip.

You might get the same problem with CUPS if its to do with the ppd file 
you are using.
