OK. So I switched to cups and I am able to print the pdf documents I need.
However, none of the GUI print managers work any more. (Solaris LP Print Manager, I'm guessing, should not work.) When I call up desktop-print-management from a terminal I receive an error that says system-config-printer is not installed.
