A final note, if someone has a similar need: - this started off as an attempt to enable opensolaris printing on a Canon ir3100CN, offering colour, duplex, stapling, sorting, and a lot of other options - no opensolaris_86 driver is available, but a free Linux driver is provided by the vendor, including a ppd- file - importing this ppd- file into the ppd- cache /w ppdmgr enabled printing with the lp printing system on OS_86, but only single-sided. All the goodies were not recognized. - switching to cups and still using the said ppd-file now enabled all options - works well so far.
