Since this appears to be an optional requirement, we are leaning strongly towards not
requiring consents except in the cases where accreditation requires us to do so.

Our HIPAA Committee has decided to not require consents based on the
information we have today. I am wondering what other health plans have
decided to do? Do other health plans currently require some sort of consent
or authorization to be signed at the time of enrollment now? If so and have
decided to discontinue the process, are you using the privacy compliance
date to change your procedure or are you changing it now? Are there any
legal concerns associated with not having a consent or is this impossible to
know until after 4/2003?

Thank to all,

Melissa Waterhouse
