Because we are deluding ourselves by thinking we can still acquire a unique
selling point at a time when the concept of operating within a meritocracy
has all but collapsed, due to the effect digital has upon the mindset of
those who buy in photographic services - that is: "cheaper equals better".

I fully admit that I don't know the answer to this conundrum.
