Dear Listees
This is an announcement message, please do not reply to it.
I am very happy to announce the addition of a WEB BASED ARCHIVE FOR PRODIG.
It is available on the Prodig web site <www.prodig.org>
This new archive started on 18/11/2002. Therefore older messages do
not, and will never, appear on it.
It is provided on a "What you see is what you get" basis......
...in other words, in anticipation of some of your questions:
Q. Can the format be modified, improved or otherwise changed?
A. NO
Q. Will messages appear instantaneously on the archive?
A. The time it takes a particular message to appear can vary and
depends on server activity and the total volume of all mail on the
server (not just Prodig).
Q. Will a Search look through everything?
A. It primarily looks in the Body of a message.
A. The "search" index is compiled only every several days, depending
on total mail traffic.
A. Indexing is not rigorous, some messages may not be logged.
Q. Will 'spambots'* be able to read my email address?
A. The archive does not reveal message 'headers' (ie. the To: and
From: fields) NOTE however if an address is in plain view in the body
of a message or signature IT WILL appear.
The server is set to be unfriendly to 'spambots' but no guarantees are given.
(*spambots are software searching robots that seek to harvest email
addresses etc for the purpose of sending mass email advertising)
NOTE: the Archive is provided "as is". No warranties are given or
implied. The Listowners, monitors/moderators, operators or sponsors
are in no way responsible for any direct or indirect damage or
consequential loss as a result using this List or its Archive.
The "Archive" is not a topic for discussion on the List.
Many thanks to Tim Andrew for his research which lead to this implementation.
