Tony,
I bought a D100 a couple of weeks ago...
In Raw File mode its painfully slow. You can take 4 shots rapidly, and then
nothing more until its finished writing one of the files. Then you can take
one more shot. And so it go's. Letting you shoot one more, as it finishes
writing the previous file. To write all 4 files takes the D100 approx. 2
mins 45 secs... by which time your models have probably got the first signs
of rigamortis setting in....
Just for the record : In Tiff mode it will let you shoot 6 frames in
succesion (mighty generous) - and it takes about 3 minutes to write them to
the CF card.
In Fine jpeg mode it will also let you shoot 6 frames in succession, and
takes about 10 secs to write the files to CF. Now that's better !

Hence I've only used it for jobs in jpeg mode, due to the fast write speed.
(Didn't fancy waiting for it to finish writing files in front of the client
and the subjects).
At 800 ISO the files obviously have noise in them, but its not as horrendous
as I thought it was going to be. Files appear soft, but nothing that a
little USM can't fix.

If you shoot people against a white background, I noticed a thin grey line
(4 pixels wide) where the edge of the subjects face bleeds onto the white
backdrop. This is the most disconcerting thing I've noticed about my D100.
But since I have not had a great deal of experience with digital cameras,
may be someone else could explain where these black line come from ? I
managed to compare this effect with a D1 on the shoot, and it was also
there, but not anyway near as pronounced.

Main bugbear for me is that I have AI and AIS lens. These lens do fit, for
sure... but the quality is pretty dire, when I compare what these lens give
me with the F100 and film. And nothing works with these AI and AIS lens.

Also there is no PC Flash sync socket (major annoyance). So you have to have
a couple of hot shoe adapters with you.

But after saying all the above, I like it. And the 'on board' flash is a
great bonus. I think for the money, right now, theres no other choice is
there ? (Fuji S2 no where to be seen still ?)

Regs, D
