in jpg fine mode. Possibly due to beating the memory buffer the camera
crashed loosing the first thirty shots from a total of forty-six.
Today a different (but possibly related) problem shooting raw nefs. The
camera shows two images on the card. They are viewable on screen but
Macbibble will only load the second. Trying again with Nikon capture (which
we never normally use) results in first file importing only in part and
seriously fragmented. Second file comes in fine. Fault finally cleared
seemingly on it's own but has left us feeling a little wary. Has anyone
encountered anything similar?
Mark,

I had a similar experience but I was able to trace the problem to loading or partially unloading the card while the camera was on. I remember hitting the eject button for the card and realizing only after that the power was on. I immediately put the card back in and checked the monitor. Everything seemed ok until I went to dump the card. Like you (your friend) I lost some images, and some of the ones that were there were damaged similarly to what you described. I also had problems formatting that card. For some reason it didn't want to clear. I put it away and like you said, the issue seemed to resolve itself as I was able to format it in camera a few days later just fine.
I have not seen any other instance where this kind of thing happene to me but would also be curious to see if any other list members had this type of problem that was NOT due to partial/full card ejection with power on.
I just wrote my experience off as the one time a year I open the back with the film loaded...

Yours,
Robert
