The description sounds like they've put a color managed interface onto
something that works like Gimp-Print which access CUPS to drive the
printers. I've used much earlier versions of the Birmy RIP to drive an
Epson from a System 9 Mac. It worked well and offered some nice
features, but the print quality was not as good as the native Epson
driver and it was VERY slow. The only reason for using it was a
workflow that required a Postscript capable RIP. If you print from
something like Photoshop where color management can be handled within
the application, Gimp-Print works beautifully... and its free! I've
setup several legacy Epson printers to print from Jaguar with little
effort. Gimp-print is constantly being updated and color managed
versions are in the works.
