this surprises me, having been pleased with my initial scans of
Kodachromes from the Polaroid 4000 - and count me in as one of the fussy
ones....

after a little tweaking (and bearing in mind still quite new to this,
see my other posts!) am impressed with the A3 prints done on the Epson
1290 and which are coming out better than Cibas (same image, same size)
especially in terms of sharpness (or 'apparent sharpness' for the
pedantic) and retention of highlight/control of contrast - other pluses
include: tone and colour controllable (Ciba struggles with some blues,
inkjet blues are coming out better, so far), white border (useful for
adding text), unit cost much lower, immediate printing - the only
miunuses at the moment are print lightfastness ("10 years" with 1290,
Epson inks and premium glossy, against 50 years or so for Cibas) and
paper weight (both of which may be accommodated with alternative
printer/inks/papers) and the multitude of printing options available....

let me know when your drum-scanner is up and running

thanks for your info
