In strictly legal uses the refers to material which has been registered

and is unneccessary. With world wide access to images on the web perhaps the
best answer is probably to register copyright in the US.

This is probably of not much use to a commercial photographer with an ever
increasing portfolio of images, but for a fine art photographer or digital
artist The Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS) for a modest one-off
fee of 20-30 will register a copy of all your work, and will act on your
behalf if there is an infringement of copyright - if you bring it to their
attention. Of each artwork you can either send them a tranny, a photo, or
even a CD if you want to collate all your images together.

DACS have sister organisations in 32 countries, including USA, Japan, Korea,
and throughout Europe, copyright infringement that occurs abroad can be
addressed by sister organisations in these countries.

They make their living from the commission (25% I think) they earn on
successfully acquiring copyright fees, and compensation for any damages,
i.e. No Win, No Fee. They will do the chasing for you.

I have never had to use their services (yet) but I would be interested to
know if anyone on this list has had experience (or by hearsay) of using DACS
for copyright infringement, and how efficient they were.
