You can profile both printers just fine but you'll never get totally dead nuts neutrals over the entire tonal scale thanks to the issues with the driver. Still a custom profile will produce vastly superior color and soft proofs (assuming a good profile) that will be much better than those supplied by Epson. I haven't seen any differences or issues between the 2200 and larger printers with regard to profiling.
