I'm sure others on the list can go into much more depth on RIPs than me, but
put simply, (because that's the only way I understand it) a RIP, or Raster
Image Processor, is a bit of software that converts vector graphics such as
those produced by Quark or In Design into printing dots. They can cost
thousands, however if all you want to do is print to a 1290 then Epson do
their own - Epson Stylus RIP for about �100 (although that price was over a
year ago). It will also enable you to print cmyk to the 1290 if you ever
need to.
