Yes, you don't get hounded by stupid dialog boxes that want to force you to
save with backward/forward compatibility even though you've said in prefs
you don't want to do it and you know the Universe will end if you don't do
it but you're mature enough to take that risk anyway <G>

The two files will give you different file sizes depending on the
compression you use. Do a comparison: save as TIFF with layers and save as
PSD with and without backward/forward compatibility. Also, a layered TIFF
will save a flattened layer. That can be an advantage when previewing the
image in an app that can't see layered files.
