Paul,
The Canon 1D is actually 8 frames per second and whether it 21 in the
buffer or not doesn't matter to me--I've never run into it in actual
practice. I remember that when the D30 was announced, the 3 fps rate was
attributed to the relatively slow speed of the CMOS, something the 1DS
shares. While I agree that the larger file sizes require a greater data
flow rate at the same frame rate, Canon so far has solved the dilemma with
faster processors and by splitting the sensor chip into halves for two
processors. What is to prevent four or sixteen processors to be used?
(Arrr-Arrr More Power!)
I look for the 1D replacement to have a larger sensor, megapixel rating,
and still maintain the frame rate and buffer capacity. Mind you, I'm not
predicting when.
Dave
