I do not think that will happen. At least not in my lifetime!! Just accept
that chips will never reach the size of 5 x 4in film - and why should they?
Equally lenses are never going to get that short and wide or monorails able
to squeeze film and lens panels close enough to make it worthwhile. Either
accept that you continue to use film and scan or shoot digitally and correct
the verticals in Photoshop. Yes, it can be done to good effect and quality.
You just have to be more selective in the viewpoint. Of course, not all
architectural photography must be done on 5 x 4in film with 47mm lenses.
Just enjoy the experience.

There is this professional masochism that dictates that architectural
photographers must stand for hours on street corners in freezing
temperatures, setting up collapsible darkrooms on tripods to get that
definitive shot. Or that we have to use 30,000 joules of flash powder at
f/fortnight in huge interiors, to get the only true result. I know - I have
been there countless times. It is what makes you feel professional.
Struggling with a dark cloth over your head in the wind. Fiddling with a
sunshade across the top diagonal of a lens. Faffing about with dark slides -
which were the negs or transparencies - never mind the black and white!!
Thank goodness for Quickload!! Taking rising front to the extremes of cut
off to get the top of the building in. And then some wag comes along with a
D60 or D100 or what ever. A couple of quick shots on the camera card and
back in the warm with their good friend Sir Photoshop. Verticals corrected -
a bit of USM - prints out of the machine. Eureka! I know - I have been
there too.

Only then do you realise that each medium has its place in the scheme of
things. Each has its upsides and downsides. Don't expect miracles. It is
what happens between your ears that makes fantastic pictures. Not what
camera system you use. Just enjoy the experience!!

Kindest regards to you all.
