Hi,

I understand the Mac can be set up using mailserve to "act as its own mail server", if
that's the right expression. This involves going in as root user and entering in a
lot of code. So it's a bit dodgy for someone like me.

A friend has outlined what to do, but I'm stuck, his instructions seem incomplete.

Can anyone point me to a URL or discussion on the Apple site about this? Or a book
that details the steps in layman's terms? I've searched the Apple support site but
can only find vague references to it, or links to OSX Server, which is a different
program. I'm using OSX 10.2.2 on PowerBook G4/667.

As its probably OT please email me OFF-LIST !

Many thanks,
David

PS The reason being that where I am, they don't seem to have heard of sending out
emails other than via Hotmail or Yahoo or an ISP like 163.net. So at the moment I
have to send out from Eudora using a friend's server in USA, but it's not very
convenient because if I move around I have to send him the new ISP server settings
every time for his server to recognise them. Otherwise, his server and any other ISP
say in the UK thinks I'm relaying and spamming so I get the message "Error 550 -
relaying not allowed".
