Sonya, I have the 1D and the 1Ds; they are both excellent cameras. Having tried the opposition (Nikon), I am happy with my choice.
Image quality from both is excellent and the files from a 1D will happily stretch beyond A4, the 1Ds beyond A3, in a glossy magazine. A 1Ds file is far superior to any scan I have ever seen from 35mm and better than most from 6x7". Truly amazing! Canon service have frequently fixed items 'on the spot' when I have called in advance. Fortunately I have had no problems with the s and only one with the 1D. There is a substantial price difference between the 1Ds and the Kodak, much of which is accounted for by the lack off an anti-alias filter on the Kodak. I seem to remember seeing details of this on Michael Reichmann's site (http://www.luminous-landscape.com). Personally, I would never buy Kodak as their service reputation is apparently beyond awful. Several friends have / had the Kodak 520 / Canon D2000. None had good words for Kodak back-up.
