I know the question of digital cameras & tax has been discussed here
before, but I've just spent 10 minutes on the phone to my local tax office.
As expected it was confirmed that my proposed purchase of a new laptop fits
the 100% FYA criteria, due to finish this March 31st, but it was a solid
"no" for the Fuji S2 I bought recently. I explained that other
photographers had been encouraged by the IR to believe their new digital
cameras were allowable for 100% FYA, but since my bloke hadn't been asked
about them 'til now he went straight to his reference sources, read them to
me, and while admitting the logic of images produced digitally being
useless until uploaded (with the lead supplied) to a computer, said the
message is clear: because a camera captures its images independently of a
computer, it doesn't count as a peripheral. His reference is SE (for
Schedule E) 21698, apparently accessible on the IR website. Ah well.
Regards, Tony H
