The amount of information about who's registered what vairies for domain
types.
.uk domains show relatively little. The key is to see who's name is the
registrant
rather than who it's registered by.

You can look up domain info :-
http://zonedit.com/whois.html
or uk only
http://www.nominet.org.uk/index.html (domain name search LHS)
or
http://tatumweb.com/iptools.htm

A trick sometimes used by some registrars is to register the domain in their
name.
With UK domains Nominet will issue a certificate (sometimes takes months,
occaisionally years)
to the REGISTRANT, though frequently via their agent (whoever registered the
domain for them).

Nominet are just changeing the rules re moving away from one 'tagholder'
(host or domain reseller)
to another. It used to be that the tagholder could refuse until all fees
were paid to them, now
the registered owner can ask nominet who will move it, but moneys owed will
STILL be collectable
under nominets T's & C's.(http://www.nominet.org.uk/howto/terms-final.html).
