Yes, Paul, I have an idea:

Competition. They feel if they don't come up quickly with something 
newer with different bells and whistles, someone else will and 
they'll lose their share of the market. They have managed to turn 
photographic equipment into the equivelant of computer hardware, 
which gets outdated almost as soon as it hits the shop floor. They 
will get to the point where no one will want to buy anything, as they 
will be waiting for the next one and the next one and so on.

We have one, too, and really like it. But this leaves a bad taste in 
your mouth, when you spent a good amount of money just a short while 
ago, and now it's pushed aside for another one, that will lose value 
again just as quickly. Best to just ignore the new ones and keep 
enjoying the one we have, as it is an excellent camera, with, of 
course, some minor inconveniences, as they all have!
