Hi, I've just bought a 200gb d2 Firewire drive, with two intentions in mind. One, to back up from both my PC laptop (W2000) and my PowerBook, and two, to use it for editing digital video.
I planned to create 4 partitions: 1 of 22gb to do a mirror image of the two PC partitions 1 of 32gb to do a mirror image of the 4 PowerBook partitions 1 of about 40gb for miscellaneous backups 1 of the remaining approx 100gb to use for video editing (to be done mainly on the Mac) Now I've come to set it up (using the PC W2000) I realise I may be stupid, as I'd completely forgotten that of course it has to be formatted - and can only be either PC formatted or Mac formatted (with various options either way!). Can anyone kindly clarify whether if I format it using W2000 that I can still use it to back up from the Mac (OSX 10.3) ? And will I have to format it in NTFS? (as it seems Fat32 only allows partitions of 32gb) And if I do this, will it conflict with the fact that the existing PC laptop partitions are Fat32? And can I use it to work on digital video files using either Mac or PC? (ie, are video files truly cross platform?) Would really appreciate guidance on this. What I thought would be simple, is simply not!
