Title: Re: [PRODIG] Changing hair colour
Hi all,
I am also new to this list, based in Sydney Australia, I do a mix of about 50/50 capture of digital/ film, with at least 80% of all work digitised and manipulated in some form.
Been sitting in reading all the good advice from you all, this is my first post
To add to some of the replies to Simons question
I always make the selected area (in this case the hair) and new layer (com j)
Then make any hue/saturation or colour balance via an adjustment layer. Holding down the option key while choosing the adjustment layer will link it to your new layer only
This gives the advantage of been able to compare your alterations by simply turning the adjustment layer on or off at will. Also it means you can discard it at anytime in the future by trashing the new layer. You can also control the blend and opacity of new adjustment layer, further controlling the effect/amount of change you desire.
One more advantage of adjustment layers, they use less memory and computing power than doing hard changes to actual image so are quicker and results are viewed faster. (can’t tell you actually why perhaps someone with more knowledge on mathematics of how applications work can tell us)
Finally you can save multiple layered image as as a psd (allowing future changes if need be) then flatten and save again before output to client.
Hope this helps
PS. I do a lot of broucher/catalogue work digitally that all need colour correction of some sort, I find adjustment layers the simplest most function method
