Be sure to record the action with Save As, not just Save. If you
record as Save then only a Save operation is attempted on playback.
The file is saved in the same format that it is already in. If the
original file is a JPEG it will be saved as a JPEG again but if it came
from some source other than Photoshop, its compression setting will
likely not match those commonly available in PHotoshop so you get the
dialog asking to choose a compression setting. This is common if for
instance the files you are processing are straight out of a digital
camera. Record the action using Save As and your problem should
disappear.
