Hi Listees,

I have been watching this thread, and it would seem to me that Virgin do not seem to be overly helpful to Mac users, in which case why stick with them. If the disparaging remarks that I saw posted were a verbatim report from their helpline, then 'support' is a misnomer.
There are several ISPs that do help, and understand the Mac OS (9&10).

I am biassed as I have been with Dircon for a long time (they are now called Netscalibur). Their support is second to none, and they are extremely patient and knowledgeable. I have never waited longer than 2 minutes to get to speak to a human - probably never even that long, but when I have faced, or clients that I am helping have faced difficulties, they have given me their undivided attention for even three-quarters of an hour! The call is always local rate.

The Alcatel Speedtouch USB which came when I first changed over to ADSL proved to be passable on OS 9, but nothing but trouble on OS X - (on 10.1.4 absolutely unworkable). I now use and can highly recommend the Hermstedt NetShuttle DSL router. There is also the lesser WebShuttle which is USB, whereas the NetShuttle is ethernet. Hermstedt are a Mac-focussed company whose products are reliable, the software for Alcatels seem to have been a Friday afternoon port by someone who speaks both pidgin English and pidgin French, and many moons ago played around with programming in Basic and has yet to reach puberty.

To make things simple: Mac user?- Go to good Mac-friendly ISP, and buy Hermstedt hardware.

Sorry to upset those who cannot get ADSL in their area, (keep chasing BT) - but last night I downloaded the 80Mb MacOS X 10.2.4 in no time at all!
