Hi Mike,

'Assign Profile' changes the meaning of colour values within a digital image
and, therefore, changes the appearance of the image (pixels).

'Convert to Profile' moves an image from one colour space to another whilst
retaining its original appearance (as near as damn it) so, therefore, the
actual colour values themselves are changed rather than their meaning.

If you are using this function, you must be wanting to move the image from
its current colour space (the source space) into another one (the
destination).

It sounds as if you are working in Adobe 1998 (somebody else might be able
to tell you the history of that name) and want to convert to your custom
printer profile for output through your printing device.  Correct?

If so, why not simply do this in the Print Options dialogue box (COMMAND>P
in PS7, COMMAND+OPTION>P in PS6).  You can then use the drop menus to apply
the correct profile much more efficiently...
