A quick 'thank you' to all who responded to my plea for help.
We have now tried DiskWarrior (thanks again Rod W-P for taking the time out to phone, and helping me think straight) and Prosoft's Data Rescue - they have found lots of interesting stuff but not the files we are missing. However the 'get info' command for the effected HDD leads me to believe that there is still something there that I can't yet see.So we will try the Data recovery specialists on Monday, although these guys seem to charge the same way as plumbers and as the studio heating has just gone down, it looks like its going to be an expensive month.
