Dear Simon

When you have once used OSX you will never willingly go back. You have to have 9.2 if you are running OSX. 9.2 is what opens in Classic. Yes, you can have both operating systems on one machine. I had lots of problems going from 9.2 back to OSX after using AOL. Nearly all of my problems are AOL based. AOL now has an OSX version which is c**p and resulted in harsh words from this list. I switched to tesco.net which is cheaper anyway. (They have free OSX support!)

Depending on what software you are using you will notice a difference when changing from 9.1 to 9.2.

Changing from OS 9.* to OSX is a big change. The problems with OSX software which were mostly the non-availability of drivers for printers and scanners are disappearing fast. There are many subtle features in OSX which make working with it a pleasure. One feature which no one mentions is the ease of shuffling lots of picture files around because you can have multiple open windows. Hard to explain but with the same window open twice you can view the bottom and the top at the same time.

There are also some incomprehensible features which are not explained well in the manual. Some people are lucky and never find these difficulties.

OSX 10.2.4 is the latest version. (As far as I know).

Reinstall any OS9 software from OSX and it will open automatically in "Classic" which is a fancy name for OS9 inside OSX.

Dear All,
After posting questions with regard to iMovies last week (thanks for the
replies) I got several replies advising me to upgrade from my current
operating system (9.1).
I'm sure it's been covered (sorry) but could someone outline the pros and
cons between upgrading to 9.2 and going straight to OSX (is that correct?).
Have most of the glitches been ironed out?
Can you have 2 operating systems on the one computer (G4 500)? Is it worth
it etc...

All advice greatly received cos if I'm going to update I may as well do it
properly.

As ever,

many thanks,

Simon Buckley
