I can't give a specific answer without being there. But as a general rule
when problem solving my printers, I'd erase all previous traces of the
drive, including prefs files. Re-Install it. See what happens.

A good problem solving technique on OSX would also be to create a new user.
This gives you a completely clean user system, so there should be no
conflicts etc. Try installing the driver to this system.

Always check in the system profiler (Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info) to
check that the computer is actually seeing the Printer. Is it running on USB
or other? Is it running of a direct USB port or a hub? Are there any other
USB devices connected at the same time, especially other printers? (I don't
mean keyboard/mouse) I've had a few minor problems running two printers. The
system always seems to forget one of them is there. Currently not having
problems, but the 1160 is plugged into the keyboard. I've not fully solved
the reason for this, as I've not had time. But I'd definitely try having
only the printer plugged in, without any other peripherals.
