Thanks for the info! I was wondering if you would mind looking at this guys
setup and let me know if you thought it was a good deal. He e-mailed me and said
I could have this setup for a total of $260.00.
Dear Don
I do not know the exchange rate but from looking at the kit on ebay I would say don't touch it unless you really feel you have to! I would be asking myself some questions....why was it necessary for the camera to be cleaned and what's happened to the standard lens. Also why is it being offered with an exposure meter...normally the internal exposure system is really excellent.
We bought one of these cameras thirty years ago for slide duplicating and it ran through many hundreds of rolls of film in the darkroom driven automatically by the motorised back and an electronic timer thingy with never a missed beat or bum exposure. In recent years it became my fun camera and sported a number of lenses and was just as reliable and never had a service.
However I did hear tails of how unreliably they were and felt we had been lucky....lucky that is until last year it together with a load of other kit was stolen from my car....a very sad day!
If you really want/need an A1, I would expect to pick a mint one up on ebay in the UK with just the standard lens for under 150. Be aware that some examples suffer from shutter screech. I think it was something to do with faulty assembly or parts or something. It can be sorted at a price so watch for that. The only digital thing you can do with it is to digitally scan the resultant film! Got to keep the posting digital haven't we<BG>
Happy hunting.
