I seem to be encountering a few problems with OSX.2.4 and USB/firewire connections; both to printers and modems. It may be related to your problem. I have never encountered the go slow that you have except with the internet connection yesterday which eventually ground to a halt. There seems to be a USB issue with OSX.2.4 perhaps due to Epson drivers and ADSL software not being up to speed with OSX. I have noted the printers (1270 and 2100) sometimes stop being recognised by the computer and restarts are often necessary.
