I have been using a Quest Ultrapower external battery for some months now with great success on the D1. It is fairly small and light weight - about 435 grams - with a belt clip. It is a 30 watt unit, 7.2 volts at 4.1Ah and uses a Quantum cable to attach to the camera. It recharges from full discharge - about a day's shooting - in about 4 hours, less if only partially discharged.
At 49.75 it won't break the bank, and a spare battery pack is only 37.75. The Quantum cable was around 30 from Calumet (at the time I bought mine, Quest were not supplying them as they could not source the Nikon D1 connectors for the cables: they recommended the Quantum. The situation may now have changed).
Their address is Quest, Broad Street, Whittlesey, Peterborough, PE7 1HA. Tel: 01733 204600 e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Their web site is a little less than easy to navigate (!), but go to http://www.2cr5.co.uk/start_shop.html , scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Universal Digital Camera Power-packs.
And no, I have no connection with the company - other than being a satisfied customer!
Regards,
Clive
Can anyone recommend a decent external battery system for a D1X? I understand that some of them can fry the camera. My 3 batteries just don't last long enough - this seems a common problem on this camera.
