I use my old Lombard Powerbook G3 exactly as you describe all the
time... tools on the powerbook... images on a larger hardware
calibrated display. That's how I typically capture images from a Kodak
DCS760. I believe all of the Powerbooks made since mine can do this (as
well as optionally working in mirrored mode). However iBooks will only
work in mirrored mode I think.
