Thanks Paul,

Just a couple of questions: what do you mean when you say both size plug
inputs, I thought there was only one, and how much?

Simon
I just knew you would ask me that!

There are two sizes of firewire plugs and sockets. I think one is 6 wire
and one is 4 wire. But the size difference is very obvious. The big one
is like a church arch, the smaller one isn't. I haven't found any
difference in using either, but I am sure someone could inform you more
accurately about the technical differences

My Sony Vaio has a built in firewire port (well done Sony) which has the
small socket, but as I am using that for other things, I bought the
PCMCIA card.

For me the big advantage of the two size adapter is that you can choose
your cable. I have found availability of long firewire leads to be very
variable, so choice is good. I found I needed a cable in excess of 3
metres and that was difficult. I think the PCMCIA card was around 60.

Kind regards
Paul Hewitt
