The actual download speeds are the same, 400Mbit, the only difference is that the 6 pin firewire carries power to peripherals, the 4 pin only serves as a data link. Also, the 6 pin is the Apple developed firewire, while the 4 pin was developed by Sony for the vaio, it was called ilink (I think!).
