In many ways, OS X is a hybrid of OS 9 and Windows but lacking some of the
refinements of both systems. Your tip is good but if you bring an OS X app
to the forefront, the App Switcher disappears and you have to go to the Dock
to bring an OS 9 app to the forefront. I too missed the App Switcher a lot.

I keep icons for only the most used apps on the Dock and have the
Applications and the Utilities as well as the Apple Menu Items folders on it
for accessing lesser used apps. I find Cmd+Tab also helps a little for
tabbing through the running apps (I had a free utility in OS 9 for doing the
same).

Niggles:

--Still can't create a folder within a folder.

--Can't organise windows as in Windows Explorer or Norton File Manager (the
latter is defunct but a 100 times more powerful than Windows Explorer).

--The date on the Apple menu is always greyed out.

--There is scant choice of skins for the OS.

--Mac Help is a dog's dinner because it takes an eon to load - I'm not
interested in searching the help files of 10 apps when all I want to know is
how to take a screen shot or an OS shortcut.

--The maximize button on a window doesn't behave as one would expect it to:
fill the screen or to a predefined second size. It seems to fill the screen
heightwise but not lengthwise (if you know of a trick, please share).

--Not being able to resize a window from any side is an oversight, IMO
(maybe Microsoft have the patent and don't want to licence it?). I have on
occasions have a window stick under the Apple menu and have had to quit the
app! In OS 9, at least you could move the window by grabbing a side if not
resize it.

--Installing or updating an app can change the appearance and highlight
color of your interface! Baaad voodoo.
