In relation to the VAT (Custom and Excise) the milk man will knock on your
door at 5am , the VAT man will just walk/break in.
The VAT man does not need a court order (unlike the police) to enter any
premises if they feel you or a company have broken the VAT laws. What this
means in practice is that you better pay your VAT bills.
Owe TAX and the taxman can't take your tools of the trade away (make sure
you remember that and tell the judge) and you can deal with the courts to
pay back what you owe. Owe the VAT man and he can remove ALL you
equipment/House/Studio etc and sell it for what he wants. If this does not
cover what you owe him, then you are in big shit. Have heard and seen many
time of people owing the VAT man say 20,000 pounds and having thier
equipment sold (valued at far more than this) for as little as 1000 pounds
and still owing outstanding VAT.
Remember the VAT man needs no invite or court order to say hi to your
personaly- you have been warned. or in other words owe the Inland revenue
not the VAT.

Sorry to be a downer but dealt with the VAT in the UK for 15 years - Now in
South Affrica - same system (copied from the UK/Europe) have kept to the
same rules.

Cheers
