<I have recently taken my life in may hands and used a squeezy rubber bulb
type air cleaner on the CMos in my 1Ds.

It's nerve wracking - but it works. Whatever you do DO not use compressed
air cans which contain propellant - and don't put the nozzle of a squeezy
rubber bulb type air cleaner anywhere near the surface of the sensor.

Be brave - they're only 6000 !

Thanks for the service centre info. I rushed to Canon Elstree, via
Boringwood. Arrived 08.25am, left 08,45am clutching freshly cleaned chip,
and camera. It took longer to get out of Elstree than it took to clean the
chip and I'd resigned myself to a rebuild, expensive and without sympathy.
This excellent service with two of their guys away at Wimbledon. I feel I've
survived the first terrifying crisis with my 1Ds. I do foresee regular
visits to Elstree though. Interestingly, I heard the sound of a high
pressure air blast just before my camera reappeared. It would have been
interesting to have sat in on the operation to remove the sticky and
unpleasant stuff.

On another matter anyone tried the Flashrax storage/viewer.

Regards and thanks

Andrew
