Took your advice and had one of these "digital marvels" delivered the other
day. Many thanks for your guidance and help off line.  The little dark
beauty is so feature rich, it is almost unbelievable ! The image editing
software, Dimage Viewer, is pretty neat and covers practically everything .
While the instruction manual for it is clear and precise, the one for the
camera is just a little too verbose for ready comprehension.

About a pocket full of AA batteries . Well, you really need a large pocket.
Have ordered the AC adapter for it, which have to be routed through a UPS to
save the camera and the CF card, as once a while we do have unexpected power
failures. Hope , I am doing the right thing. For still-life work the AC
adapter seems to be a must.
