Hi Christina. I'm not on Windows but the red light on a 1290 should not be on as you say it is. That is an error warning light only or a low ink warning light. If you send something to print an error message should appear along the lines of "communication problem', "low ink" or "paper jammed". There might not be any paper in it but it could be expecting some before the error will clear. Try manually feeding a sheet. Put a sheet in and hold down the paper feed button - the one with the red light above it.Green light comes on, printer makes noises to get ready for work and red light comes on too. Both stay on.
