Hi 
Two reasons why this may be so. Is the DVR-103 in as a IDE drive (eg
replacing mac's own CD) and not in a Firewire case? You may have set drive
to slave on the drives jumper switch's, check to see if it's is to master as
it should be.   

Incidentally all with problems with Pioneer drives and none latest Mac
Firmware may be interested in reading and downloading the bits talked about
